AnoxKaldnes’ MBBR technology optimizes solutions for the mining industry. Treatments include wastewater that contains complex compounds such as Selenium and Cyanide and challenging low-temperature (down to 2°C) nitrification and denitrification.
Mining wastewater typically has the following characteristics:
- Low BOD-content
- Ammonium and/or nitrate-nitrogen from explosive residues
- Thiocyanate (SCN) and cyanide (CN-) and cyanate (OCN-)
- Elevated concentrations of metals
- Low temperature
- Selenium or other emerging contaminants
Using MBBR technology it is easy to design a multi-step process, enabling the development of unique micro-flora (bacteria, fungi, etc.) in the different process steps. This makes it possible to remove complex compounds while protecting subsequent steps from toxicity.
The MBBR process is easy to combine with a variety of post-treatment options as no sludge recycle is required.
