Four ways to save money while removing nitrogen with Hybas™
Without nitrogen, there would be no life, but too much of it in wastewater is a danger to both human health and our whole ecosystem. Here are four ways AnoxKaldnes Hybas™ provides a cost-effective way to remove nitrogen and improve the capacity of your existing nitrogen-removal process.
Energy efficient
AnoxKaldnes Hybas™ is equipped with carriers that improve oxygen transfer into the biofilm. The Hubgrade online control system optimizes performance and prevents over-aeration. Being an activated sludge, only a smaller part of sludge volumes utilizes carriers. That means the same energy efficiency numbers apply to all other volumes. Biogas potential from sludge is approximately 30% higher than the biogas yield obtained from an activated sludge designed for extended nitrogen removal without carriers.
Higher biomass activity through shorter sludge age
The denitrification rate in Hybas™ can be several times higher than rates found in activated sludge processes with long sludge age. The anoxic fraction of the total volume is also higher, keeping denitrifiers working for a larger percentage of the time.
Better removal of micropollutants
By combining activated sludge and biofilm in Hybas™ you can expect a 20% improvement in micropollutant removal. Combining Hybas with post-treatment for further micropollutant removal can decrease operating costs downstream compared to treatment after activated sludge only.
Chemical-free phosphorus removal
You can apply all different types of Enhanced Biological Phosphorus Removal (EBPR) in AS-systems in Hybas™.
